Writing Down Dreams

Sometimes, I get some really good story ideas from dreams I’ve had. I like to write them down … the basic idea of them anyway, so I don’t forget what they are when the time comes to actually write the story.

I had a doozy last night, about an elderly woman who’s ex husband dies and she’s given the opportunity to show his ghost what life would have been like had they done things differently. A little odd, I know, and I’m purposely leaving out details in case I decide to write it.

The only thing is… in my dream, their names were George and Mary Bailey. *head desk*

Obviously, I’ll have to change that part!

Jealousy, A short Story

I was looking through my Original Fiction & Poetry folder today and stumbled upon this one… written back in January of 2001. “Jealousy” isn’t really the title, so much as a description of what it’s about. I hope that isn’t too much of a spoiler, should you decide to read it.

If I’m not mistaken, I might have written it for The Writer’ Journal’s Write to Win contest but never submitted it. Can’t be sure, because 2001 was a loooong time ago!

Lazy Day Hiaku

an even more fleeting moment in time... my daughter in 2007

So much still to do
dirty dishes and laundry
we played cards instead

House work always is
Precious childhood is fleeting
gone in a minute

Tomorrow will be
time enough for the ‘need-tos’
today is for you

We all have them — days where you just want to stay in your jammies and do nothing. We call them ‘Lazy Days.’

I had a ton of stuff to do today… laundry, dishes, and more laundry. Instead, my husband and I played a game of bridge with my daughter and her best friend and then hung out with my friend Andrea and my aunt. We did get dresses (although the girls didn’t until after the card game), but my dishes and laundry didn’t get done.

*shrugs* It’ll be there tomorrow. But the few, fleeting moments when my almost-eleven year old daughter wanted to play cards with us… those won’t always be there and someday, I’m going miss them.

I’m not advocating living in squalor… just making the occasional conscious decision to spend time with your family instead of stressing out over the small stuff.
